Despite most side dishes and salads being completely free from chametz, somehow on Pesach the ones that spring to mind are the ones with breadcrumbs, toasted seeds (kitniot), or some other ingredient that just doesn’t work. Or maybe it’s just me? Either way, I’ve gathered together some of my favourite side dishes and salads below that are 100% kosher for Passover, and fresh and delicious too! A handy reference when you need an idea quickly.
Spring is a great time for tasty side dishes and salads, as lots of vegetables and fruits are starting to come into season. You can enjoy them simply, and easily prepare healthy, fresh and beautiful dishes to enhance your Passover table.
Look out for vibrant leafy greens, tender young carrots and beetroots, spring onions, radishes, watercress and even early asparagus and artichokes.
And if you’re specifically looking for potato side dishes, you’ll need this list of the best Pesach potato recipes!

Family favourite Pesach side dishes and salads
Marinated mushroom salad
This fabulous marinated mushroom salad is easy to make and always a hit. Prepare it in advance and it’s ready when you are!
Grilled peach salad with pecans and feta
Peaches and nectarines are coming into season just in time! Enjoy them in this crunchy, nutritious salad, full of fresh and delicious flavours.
Swedish beetroot salad
One of my all-time favourite salads! Use vacuum packed beets for speed and ease and enjoy this beautiful and tasty Pesach side dish.
Avocado, orange and watercress salad with olives
One of my Mum’s classic recipes that keeps coming back because it’s just so good! Avocado and citrus is a winning combination but the olives and peppery greens make it next level.
Red cabbage slaw with radishes and dried cranberries
I love the vibrant pink colour of this delicious salad. Leave out the spices if you don’t use them for Pesach, and it will still be scrumptious!
Caponata alla guidia
This wonderful ‘cooked salad’ is another terrific make-ahead dish. Traditionally made by the Jewish community of Sicily, it combines aubergines and a tangy-sweet sauce with fragrant toasted pine nuts.
Tenderstem broccoli with garlic almond sauce
The delicious, nutrient-rich sauce for these crisp-tender broccoli spears is a real Pesach favourite here. I use it as a dressing for all sorts of veggies and salads, and even just as a dip for crudités or ‘machos’.
Easy roasted asparagus
The absolute best way to cook and serve asparagus! This easy Pesach side dish recipe produces stellar results every time.
Mediterranean vegetable tian
A dish of baked Mediterranean vegetables and herbs is always going to be a winner, right? This one is not only delicious, it looks the business too.
Sephardic style cauliflower with tomato and dill
I’m a big fan of dill in general, but it really shines in this wonderful dish of cauliflower in a fresh and herby tomato sauce.
