Start your Passover days right with this selection of delicious family-approved Pesach breakfast ideas, including pancakes, porridge, muffins and more!

Am I alone in finding breakfast the hardest meal to organise during Pesach? Surely not. If you’re used to starting the day with toast or cereal, then like me, you’re probably struggling too. Or at least, you’re struggling like I used to do!

For the last few years I’ve been creating, honing, testing, and devouring a selection of Pesach-friendly breakfasts that is sure to please even the most fussy of family-members. These breakfasts have all been tested out on my own family and friends and given the thumbs up. Some are so good, we eat them when it isn’t even Pesach!

A selection of the best Pesach breakfasts - Israeli breakfast plate, fruit compote, grain-free porridge with fruit, Pesach pop-tarts.

A weeks-worth of Pesach breakfasts!

Although during the year I tend to have porridge or toast and marmalade almost every day, during Pesach I like to try different things for breakfast. It can be fun to have something new and tasty every morning!

Work your way through the list below, and you can choose something different every day. From ‘porridge’ to pop tarts and pancakes, and even a French-toast style bake. There’s no excuse for matzah every morning! Treat your family to these delicious Passover breakfast ideas and start every Pesach morning off right.

(Of course, if you’re happy eating matza and butter every day, go for it! No pressure, no judgement. Check out secrets of a stress-free Pesach for more tips to keep your sanity during the weeklong festival.)

The Best Pesach Breakfasts

1. Dried fruit and nut breakfast loaf

Packed with dried fruits and nuts, low in fat and with no added sugar, this loaf is terrific for breakfast – I love it spread with lashings of butter. You can even toast it! I usually make two at the start of the festival, and they last me till the end. Perfect.

2. Overnight matza breakfast bake

This fabulous prepare-ahead breakfast is the Pesach equivalent of a french toast casserole or bread pudding, and just as delicious. This is one of my most popular recipes of all time, and for good reason! The minimal amount of work is done the night before, so in the morning you just have to bake and enjoy.

3. Fruit and nut yogurt parfait

4. Passover breakfast ‘porridge’

This is so good! Creamy and delicious, and full of fibre from the nuts and bananas. I like to top it with sliced fruit for added vitamins and a burst of colour. Substitute juice or milk for the coconut water if you prefer – it’s delicious either way.

Paleo ‘porridge’
This delicious Passover breakfast porridge has no grains, dairy or refined sugar. Top with fruit for extra get-up-and-go!

5. Israeli breakfast platter

Fresh vegetables, cheeses, olives and eggs make a tasty and healthy start to the day. Simply swap the usual pita for matza and you’ve a Passover breakfast that everyone will love. (Also works well for lunch!)
