This special Chanukah breakfast comes together from ready-made items in under a minute! Decorated with fruit and sprinkles, your kids will love it!

When I saw these Christmas Tree Waffles from Diana at Little Sunny Kitchen, I realised that I needed to up my Chanukah breakfast game considerably! My daughter Kipper loves a special breakfast, and she loves Chanukah, so I was guaranteed a warm reception if I could pull this off.

However, being not really (read ‘not at all’) a morning person, I needed to come up with something really easy.

Easy breakfasts

Breakfast in our house is usually toast, porridge, or some other extremely simple foodstuff. I’m not great first thing in the morning so anything more complicated is something of a non-starter – except for Sunday mornings, when I usually have a bit of a lie-in, and once I’ve had a reviving cup of tea I can manage to make homemade waffles.

You could use homemade waffles to make this special Chanukah breakfast, but I took the easier route and used shop bought ones. A few sprinkles, some fresh fruit,  and I had created The Menorah Waffle!

Looking for ideas to help make Chanukah extra special? My Ultimate Family Chanukah ebook is available now! It’s packed with resources, recipes, family activities, information and printables for every night of the festival.

Chanukah breakfast – Quick and easy!

This is probably one of the easiest to make and best received breakfasts I have ever made! And it took me about half a minute. Kipper was over-the-moon with it. She was quite annoyed that I insisted on taking photos before she was allowed to eat!

Waffles, fruit and imagination

We used Kingsmill waffles, as Kingsmill products are kosher certified by the SKA. Unfortunately though, they no longer seem to make the waffles. However, various other brands of kosher toaster waffles are available, so you should be able to pick something up without too much trouble.

Alternatively you can make your own waffles! Decorations for our Chanukah waffles were raspberries, tangerine segments, and chocolate and rainbow sprinkles. If you have the energy, you could go wild with caramel or chocolate syrup, whipped cream, chopped nuts… You can use just about anything that takes your fancy.

Chanukah waffles FAQ

  1. What are the main ingredients in Chanukah waffles?
This delicious breakfast is made using ready-prepared waffles, fruit, and sprinkles. However you can add any waffle toppings you prefer, such as syrup, chocolate sauce, whipped cream etc.
  2. Is this breakfast suitable for special diets?
It depends! This Chanukah breakfast is suitable for vegetarians. If you are able to buy or make vegan or gluten-free waffles, then you can certainly make this for someone who is vegan or gluten-intolerant. However most shop-bought waffles will contain eggs, milk and flour, and therefor will not be suitable for vegans or celiacs.
  3. Can this Chanukah breakfast be made ahead?
Although you can prepare the various elements in advance, for instance cutting up fruit etc, I would not advise assembling these waffles much before the time you intend to eat them. The waffles are best when warm from the toaster, and the toppings will also make the waffles soggy if left for too long.
If you have all the elements ready, it takes only a very few moments to assemble these menorah waffles when you need them.
  4. How many people does this recipe serve?
As written, the recipe makes just enough for one serving – I made it for my daughter Kipper and no-one else! However it’s easy to scale the recipe up for more than one diner, by using the buttons above the ingredients on the recipe card above (1x, 2x, 3x). To scale up by more than three times, use the ‘print recipe’ button and on the page that opens you can use the slider to multiply the recipe by larger numbers.

Yes, the sneaky serving of fruit is a little bonus. I couldn’t think what else to make the flames from, TBH!
